Doug Dwoyer, Ph. D.

We came to meet Doug while attending a presentation on climate change he was giving at a local environmental networking event in October.  Doug’s presentation was quite compelling, as he explained how and why climate change is already underway and how Hampton Roads will be impacted by sea-level rise in the coming decades.

Doug is a highly accomplished scientist and has been concerned about climate change for at least 10 years.  He's given over a dozen presentations on climate change at VIMS, Jefferson Lab, William & Mary business school, various civic & church organizations, Green Drinks, and Green Caffeine.

Recently, Doug organized the science portion of the joint Pew Environmental Trust/Hampton Roads Partnership regional leadership forum “Seasons of Change: National Security, Energy, and the Future of Virginia’s Hampton Roads” with Senator John Warner and also spoke at the event.  He also helped organize the Pew Environmental Trust forum “America's New Energy, a Mount Vernon Forum on Climate Change and Leadership” with Senator John Warner (Daily Press Article).

Career Highlights

In 2007, Doug completed a distinguished 30-year career at NASA Langley Research Center.  When he first joined NASA LRC as an Areospace Technologist in the Theoretical Aerodynamics Branch, Doug focused on developing Computational Fluid Dynamics analysis codes.  As his career progressed, Doug served in numerous research management positions, retiring as Langley's Associate Director for Opeations.  While at Langley his areas of focus included research and development of technologies in systems analysis, advanced concepts, aerodynamics, aerothermodynamics, acoustics, structures, materials, guidance and control, flight deck design, flight electronics, electromagnetics, atmospheric science, and systems engineering for aeronautical and space applications.

Currently, Doug serves as a Project Director for the Hampton Roads Research Partnership, a consortium of research universities in Hampton Roads, Virginia.
